Reconstruction

Unfortunately the back wheel was mounted very poorly and didn't meet the standards. Mr. Martin was not very pleased with the original idea that was thrown together. So this is the idea for the new mount. I think it's going to work great.
But first, we have to acquire new plates so we are able to mount the back wheel.

Progress report 2

So this is the chassis that we have built so far, but it is upside down in the picture. Our goal for today is to bend the two straight bars at the top and weld them together to look like top (bottom in the picture).
Once we get that done the only thing left will be the steering and tires.

Progress Report I

So between chase and I, this is how far we got with the frame since Monday. It's coming along very nicely and the bends came out pretty clean. I think we will meet our deadline.
Next step: added brackets for the wheels

2 week notice

The chassis has been started and well under way. Chase did a great job of getting the bottom started. Today we are doing some sizing adjustments to make it more narrow.
Goals:have it rolling in two weeks!

Crunch Time!

So this is the design of solar Templar.
This week our goal is to start welding the frame that Arthur drew out on Mastercam. We are gonna try our hardest to start welding and bending the conduit to make a rolling chassis by the end of the quarter.
Lets get to it!

Conduit For Days

Chase went to Home Depot on Wednesday and successfully bought about 9 pieces of the metal. This first bundle is going to be used for our test trials with the welding before we make our final chassis.
Next week our goal is to practice welding the conduit and perfect our methods before we start the real deal.

The brakes are breaking...

So this week I have been working on SK2's brakes because we initially did not have them connected. Unfortunately...the master cylinder does not seem to be pumping correctly. We tried to bleed the brakes but it didn't seem to work.
Time to try something new!

Brackets for the brakes!

We finally finished the bracket to keep the master cylinder in place. It may not be pretty but I does the job.
Next step: make the brakes work!

ORGANIZATION!

So yesterday Mr. Martin introduced a program called Trello. It's a great way for us to organize our solar Templar team and assign tasks. I see it doing great things for us!

Progress report

Great progress was made this week. We got the brakes working on SK1 successfully. We also were able to attach the master cylinder to SK2 without issues.
Next on the list: metal bending for Solar Templar!

The Parade!

The parade is coming up and SKI needs to be prepared for it. So this is going to be our project for the next month!

Modern Art

This week we learned to weld and figured out the M.I.G. welder. The image shows this " Modern Art" we created by practicing. Chase is going ham with the welder.

WELDING TIME!

With the preliminary car finished and running, welding is the new goal. For the next couple weeks Fernando and I will learn to be master welders.

It shall be fun!

SWEET VICTORY!

Due to all the hard work the car was completely assembled early during 6th period. I (jeffrey) successfully captained the car around the horticulture building. It's flawless performance is paving a great path for the new car coming soon!

Wheels and stuff.....

This week we are planning on getting the steering components connected, and getting the chain connected. Once we get that connected we can get focused on making this closer to a race car.

Getting there...

This week ended with something we exactly didn't expect, we expected to have the tires on and rolling but because we lacked certain tools we could get the tires on the rims properly. We had a parent volunteer graciously volunteer to take them to a tire shop for us! So in the meantime while we waited we helped Electrical with mounting the main power switches and mounting the panel for the switches. We also helped Electrical by rewiring the batteries in a series sequence so the total voltage going to the motor controller is 48 Volts instead of 24.

Well look at that....

Major progress was made by Fernando last Friday.
Wheel. Inflated. Sprocket. Attached. Motor. Connected.
Things are going great.

Inflation underway

Even though I was not here last Friday, progress was still made. Fernando and the team were able to inflate the rear tire.

Today we are continuing to look for the parts to mount all the tires.

Goal: have sk2 rolling by the end of the week.

Possible? Yes.

Changing course

Due to the stagnation with inflating the tires, we moved to mounting the axel and brake calipers. Here Fernando is cutting the screws to fit them into the brake calipers

Friday, September 20, 2013

And we are rolling cont.

We are currently having issues inflating the tires. We are researching inner tubes for the tires so we can have a simpler solution to our problem. We are still working hard into trying to inflate them without tubes.

And We Are rolling!

Today was a very productive day. Fernando and I were able to find the axle and sprocket for the back wheel. Along with finding the valves for the tires. Sk2 should be up and rolling within weeks!

Let's Get Rolling!

Today we worked hard on getting the tires mounted on the rims but we later realized we needed valve stems for the rims. We are hard at research to find what kind of valve stem we need for our rims.

9.6.13

What are we doing?

We are all off to a slow start with a lack of curriculum.
But will that stop progression? I think not.
Blogging must be done to update Solar Knight followers.

Once plans are gathered, money is raised, and morale is instilled in our Knights the team will be jumping off the block and beginning a long race to victory.

We all have high hopes for these next few weeks.

GOAL UPDATE: Car is projected to be up and running by the end of September.
Lets do this!

Day 1- Designs on Designs

We are at the beginnings of something great, but first, we need the blue prints for something so great,
Thus,

Arthur and I (Jeffrey) scoured the internet for possible SK2 designs.
We lurked the enemy,
Exploited the kinks in their armor,
Brainstormed designs that will bring home the gold.
Simple as that.

Even though this is a  model car, Arthur and I decide that this is a possible design that combines the perks of all other designs, into one, GOLD worthy Solar Knight.
